Help Us Expand Auchón: Build a Paradise for Our Rescues

Welcome to our campaign! If you have ever visited Hektor, you know that the spirit of our community is built on creativity, connection, and giving our beloved rescue animals the best home possible.

Right now, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: our neighbor is offering to sell us the perfect connecting piece of land, which will allow us to quadruple the size of "Auchón," our animal kingdom.

This expansion will give our majorero donkey Silvestre, our rescue sheep Stella, Loki and Malala, our pigs Tempeh and Tofu, and all our feathered friends (Blossom, Olga, Paloma, Penny, Gemma, Felipe, Isidro and Isa) the vast, safe space they need to truly heal and thrive.

But we cannot do this alone. We are funding this dream through a unique blend of art and activism, and we need your help to make it a reality.

Phase 1

51%

The Goal

To make this expansion happen, we have broken our costs into two crucial phases:

  • Phase 1 Minimum Goal (€9,500): This covers the absolute essentials to purchase the land, including the property cost, notary, registry, taxes, lawyer fees, and platform fees.

  • Phase 2 Stretch Goal (€19,000): If we hit our full goal, we can immediately make the land a home. This funds 102 meters of fencing, new mobile shelters, a water connection, and a bridge to cross the barranco, to make the land extra accessible for our heroes.

Unique piece: Calima III by Tanja Haraminčić (€250)

Calima III is a handcrafted unique ceramic sculpture created during an artist residency in Lanzarote, inspired by the island’s unique natural phenomenon known as calima—the atmospheric haze of volcanic ash, dust, and sand carried across the landscape by sweeping winds. Made from Lanzarote’s native red foraged clay, the piece embodies both the raw power and the ethereal beauty of the island.

This small sculptural vessel highlights the contrast between smooth flowing surfaces and rugged, textured areas, echoing the dual nature of Lanzarote—where soft hazy horizons meet the harsh edges of volcanic rock. Shaped using stretching, tearing, and kurinuki carving techniques, Calima I carries the energy of the land itself, translating atmospheric conditions into tactile form.

Each Calima piece is one-of-a-kind, carefully crafted through an extensive process of modeling, drying, bisque firing, and finishing, resulting in a durable, timeless ceramic work that embodies craftsmanship and the atmospheric soul of Lanzarote.

Unique pieces: The Offering Bowl, The Pouring Body and Silent Figure by Constant Fazilleau (from € 350)

In Lanzarote, water hardly exists: it must be captured, invented, transformed.

It is from this absence that this project was born.

Within the context of his residency at Hektor in August 2025, Constant chose to pursue Théâtre Domestique by leaving his objects in a state of deliberate precarity: unfired, fragile, destined to disappear.

These pieces, conceived to contain water but unable to hold it, embody a metaphor for the territory: they speak both of the ingenuity born of scarcity and of the fragility of a common good essential to life.

Unique piece: Mute Swan Hatches Eggs Surrounded by Human Negligence by Sylvietta (€ 350)

This painting is a mixed-media collage, created with my mix media  technique using up cycled paper, plastic, and found materials. In this case, the materials were found in the same location where the artist photographed the swans—in the spring of 2023.

It was shocking to see the amazing nest the swan created for themselves . They looked so regal in it, yet surrounded by plastic and white foam. In England, swans are protected as property of the Crown, but they are not protected from human negligence. For me, this work is an act of pointing out that people will admire the swans in one breath, and with the next, drop their rubbish without a second thought.

6 x 1:1 compassion focussed coaching sessions for artists/ activists by Hana Walker Brown (€ 900)

What people say about Hana’s sessions

"Hana has an uncanny ability to distill your thoughts and feelings down into pearls of wisdom that help you better understand both what you need and what you want. She is a thoughtful and attentive listener, and her broad experience has given her deep insight into the creative process, which serves to soften you into a closer relationship with your own creativity. I highly recommend her as a coach, especially if you’re feeling at all stuck in your creative practices."

"“I was so exhausted by the state of my industry and had lost my sense of place and purpose. Hana guided me back to myself. I felt SEEN and empowered during her sessions. ”

"Hana held space for me in the most generous and thoughtful way during a period of heartbreak and unexpected change. Her somatic practices are so grounding - I leave every session feeling lighter, clearer, and more connected to myself.”

"Working with Hana has been transformative. She held a beautifully safe and warm space where I felt comfortable being fully open and sharing my innermost concerns. Hana has a gentle yet highly effective approach; she is fully present throughout our sessions, acknowledges my thoughts and feelings, and helps me find the best way forward each time. Her support has made all the difference.."

The Sanctuary Patron

(from €1,000)

Meet the Residents of Auchón:

Why We Need This Land

Every animal at Hektor has a story of survival, and every single one of them deserves the absolute best life we can offer. By helping us quadruple the size of our sanctuary, you aren't just buying land—you are buying freedom, space to heal, and a forever home for these incredible rescues. Here is who you are supporting:

The Pig Pen: Tempeh & Tofu

Tempeh (a Pietrain Duroc) came to us as a spare from a farm; if he hadn't been rescued, he likely would have been killed. Today, he is forever our "little kid". Tofu, a Canarian pig, was brought in to keep Tempeh company and quickly became the one in charge. As a breed that faces challenges coping with weight at full size, Tofu needs to stay active.

The Campaign Impact:

A massive new enclosure will give Tofu the space she needs to exercise and forage, while giving both pigs a vast area to explore.

Silvestre

the Majorero Donkey

Silvestre is one of our very first residents and acts as the "mental caretaker" of the sanctuary. Before he found us, he spent five long years living in complete solitude on a tiny 20m2 patch of land. He is also allergic to local plants and flies.

The Campaign Impact:

After years of confinement, Silvestre deserves endless room to roam safely. The expanded land means more carefully managed space where he can stretch his legs and live out his days in peace.

The Grazers: Loki, Malala & Stella

Our sheep have tough pasts. Stella, a Pelibüey sheep and one of our first rescues, was mistreated at a farm and can still be quite nervous. Loki, our gentle giant, likely escaped a sheep farm and was found wandering. Malala's mother was found pregnant in the same area, and Malala only gained confidence in humans after some necessary haircuts.

The Campaign Impact:

Loki and Malala were specifically moved to Hektor from another rescue so they could have more space. Expanding the land fulfills our promise to them, giving nervous rescues like Stella quiet, expansive grazing areas where they can feel entirely secure.

The "Royal Turkeys": Isidro & Isabella

Our three peacocks are the result of their mother secretly hiding a nest at another rescue spot. They love to wander up to the windows to look inside at what we are doing.

The Campaign Impact:

They don't call them "royal turkeys" for nothing—this land purchase will quite literally quadruple their royal kingdom!

The Feathers & Beaks: Gemma, Felipe, and the Chickens

Our birds are a beautiful, blended family. Gemma the goose is our newest resident; after her buddy died, she moved in from the neighbors with the pigs and has become our primary alarm system (and a huge cuddle bug!). Felipe the Muscovy duck was bullied by his brothers at his previous rescue and prefers to stay out of the sun. Our chickens include Penny (the daredevil leader), Paloma (a former outsider looking to blend in), and Olga and Blossom, who both came from an organic farm with physical issues like a tumor and injuries from being trampled.

The Campaign Impact:

The stretch goal of our campaign includes dedicated rehabilitation enclosures. This means safe, shaded areas for Felipe, a protected space where vulnerable birds like Olga won't be trampled, and plenty of room for Gemma and Penny to patrol!

The Guardians & Cuddlers: Frits, Carmen, Rofe & Namas

Hektor wouldn't be complete without our dogs and cats. Frits was given up for being a "difficult" dog, but here, he is the ultimate guardian of the premises and an absolute cuddle monster. Rofe and Namas are our inseparable big and little brother cat duo, while Carmen is a cat who views every new human guest as an opportunity to share a cozy bed.

The Campaign Impact:

While they might not need stables, expanding the sanctuary means a bigger, better Hektor for Frits to protect and more wonderful, animal-loving guests for Carmen to snuggle with!

Where Will the Funds Go? A Transparent Breakdown of Costs

We believe in complete transparency with our community. To make this expansion a reality, we have broken down our financial goals into two crucial phases, plus a look at our ongoing costs to care for the rescues.

Phase 1: Buy the Land (Goal: €9,388.31) Our primary goal covers the absolute essentials to secure the connecting property and officially make it part of Auchón.

  • Cost of the land: €6,374.00

  • Notary & Registry fees: €1,200.00 (€600.00 each)

  • Lawyer fees: €600.00

  • Taxes: €414.31

  • Platform fees: €800.00

Phase 2: Make It a Home (Stretch Goal: €9,960.00) If we reach our stretch goal, we can immediately start preparing the land so Silvestre, Stella, Frits, and the rest of the animals can safely move in.

  • Fencing: €5,260.00 (This covers 102m for the new field, 66m for Silvestre's field, and 36m of wire for Frits)

  • Mobile shelters: €2,000.00

  • Food storage: €900.00

  • Water connection: €500.00

  • Bridge to cross the barranco: €500.00

  • Platform fees: €800.00

Beyond the Campaign: Ongoing Animal Care Expanding the sanctuary also means we are committing to the continued, high standard of care for our rescues. For full transparency, our ongoing costs to care for the animals average €1,250 per month. Here is exactly how those monthly funds are distributed:

  • Maintenance of land and stables: 39%

  • Vet care: 28%

  • Food: 19%

  • Care products: 13%

  • Staff training: 1%
